The staff at St. Dorothy’s Rest is a diverse and energetic group devoted to camp and retreat life. They pride themselves on providing creative programs, caring for their campers, retreat goers and each other with the utmost care, and being diligent stewards of the St. Dorothy’s grounds. Together, they make the St. Dorothy’s experience one of joy and renewal.
Katie Evenbeck has served as Executive Director of St. Dorothy’s Rest since May 2004. In this role, Katie oversees day-to-day operations, engaging in fundraising efforts, and promotes our mission around the Diocese. Katie began her camping career at the age of 7 at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Indiana; served as the Community Services Director in the Indiana prison system; ran YMCA Camp Roger in Salt Lake City, UT; and is an AmeriCorps Alum. Katie has a bachelor’s degree in Economics & Sociology and a MS in Sociology. Katie is also certified Zumba instructor and the mother of Lucille Evenbeck.
Director of Programs
Sara Gunter serves as the Director of Programs at St. Dorothy’s Rest and joined the team in February 2016. She grew up going to “Junior Music Camp” in the Diocese of San Joaquin before she was even old enough to be a camper. Since then camp has been a constant in her life, from parish retreats at Shrine Mont in Virginia, to working as a counselor at Phantom Ranch in Wisconsin, to leading programs for Camp Chicago and Peterkin in West Virginia. Sitting around the campfire making s’mores; singing rowdy and silly, as well as haunting and solemn songs; doing arts and crafts; spending hours at the pool – all of this and more have helped make camp a favorite place for Sara.
Sara Soto, a loving wife and mother of three beautiful boys, has worked at St. Dorothy’s Rest for the past 5 years. Sara has a background in teaching and culinary arts and is passionate about food as a means of healing. She is a certified raw food chef and instructor and graduate of Living Light Culinary Arts Institute, a world-renowned culinary school. Sara also enjoys volunteering her time as a Mentor Chef for Ceres Community Project where she teaches and empowers teenagers to create healthy and healing meals for people diagnosed cancer. Sara is very pleased to have recently been appointed the Food Services Director here at St. Dorothy’s Rest. She brings her love and passion for food with her as she creates delicious menus for our guests to enjoy.
Eric Soto is a loving husband and father of three boys. He is a fun loving, free spirited, nature lover who feels right at home as the Caretaker here at St. Dorothy’s Rest. His love and talent for beautifying and maintaining the facilities fulfills his desire to be of service. In his spare time he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and watching sports.
Guests and campers at St. Dorothy’s know Brian McCarthy because he has been its gracious and helpful host for over 10 years. Before coming to St. Dorothy’s, he was a member of Vista Americorps, and before that he spent 25 + years in data processing for various companies in Kentucky, New York and California. He even spent 2 years teaching computing in Hong Kong. Brian graduated from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California and received his Bachelor’s of Philosophy at St. Albert’s College in Oakland, California.
